A New Beginning

In about a few hours, the year of the Ox will make it's mark. Farewell to 2008, Hello to 2009!

I would have to say that 2008 has been a good year for me. I have no right to complain. I have learned a great deal about life, in general. There were lots of memorable things that happened to in 2008. Decisions (big and small) made great difference in my life. At this time, I am trying hard not to think of the could-have-beens or should-have-beens but I think most of I have and what I have become. The despite and inspite of the craziness of my world……I have no reason to complain. I most grateful for the things that had happened in 2008.

2008 will never pass unnoticed. It will surely leave a mark on me. This was the year that I made a bold move to go back to school and pursue MBA. It was a scary thought at first; to go back to school but it was all worth it. The cramming nights, the endless research papers not to mention the litany of quizzes and exams that I had to endure were all part of my amusing yet fulfilling back to school experience and I would not trade it for anything else. Learning was even made more enjoyable through the people I met along the way. My classmates are hard to ignore. Our section has been branded as the noisy group…. Noisy but surely a class with great sense of character and a mixture of brilliant minds.

As for work, I am happy where I am. I am lucky to have found good people in my work place. Good people are hard to come by these days. I value their honest opinions and advices, their companionship and support through the ups and downs and just their simple presence in my life. Through work, I was given the opportunity to see and even appreciate Mindanao. I have been given the opportunity to work hard, learn and grow.

I am happy to have been able to reconnect with my old and some lost old friends. I am happy that I get to visit Cebu for the yearly Sinulog Festival. I can’t wait to have another Cebu escapade to add to my list. Cebu will always have a place for me and likewise me for Cebu.

I am happy for everything that has been given to my family. I feel blessed to have found life-long friends and lucky to have been born into this world.

Leah's Big Day

The Montejo clan came in full force. We attended my cousin Lea's wedding last December 23, 2008. Here are some of my snaps during the celebration. The Montejo girls are now becoming extinct nonetheless, the ocassion was in pure bliss! Cheers to the Chocolate fountain right at the very back of our table!

Just got back

I just got back from my Mati Roadtrip. It was nothing I expected! It was just so fun and I had my shares of some good laughs...

We left Davao city last Monday at around 3:30 PM and had a stop over at Lupon and from there, we transferred to a Revo. The trip to Mati was filled with many car racings, siopao cravings and even the "Pinky" incident of Pidot. We arrived at Mati at around 7PM and proceded to Botona Beach Resort at Dahican. It was my 2nd time in the Resort so i was familiar with the place. We decided to have two airconditioned rooms at P1,800. The rooms were comfy plus we had our own Bathrooms. Our trip would never be complete without our fave past time and that is, videoke. We had our dinner at around 9Pm and We had non-stop videoke session til' the wee hours of the morning (3am).

At around 8 in the morning, the troop headed to the beach. We were all in awe with the big waves. Some of us were a bit hestitant to go swimming but knowing the group, we decided to give it a try..... More food pigging and videoke sessions went by.

The Mati trip was really a year-ender celebration for me. I love roadtrips and I always look forward to it.
I hope to post the pictures soon..

Happy New Year!

Change of Plans

Some friends of mine and I are supposed to go to Camiguin this weekend but due to some unforeseen circumstances (like the weather and someone's is still ill), i was informed by our Official Event Planner "Pidot", that our Camiguin trip will be postponed and that the new destination will now be MATI. I was excited about our supposed to be trip to Camiguin but Mati is a good place to chillax over the Christmas break, too.

I have been to Mati many times. It has great beaches and the sleepy town always has its way of charming me. I just want to get away from the city for a change. A couple of days to recharge and just soak my feet on the beach... Hopefully, we can go on this trip!
Another road trip to add on my list of escapades. A good way to end 2008!

to stay hidden

Sometimes, you just have to close your eyes so that jumping into the unknown would not be that scary. Sometimes, you have to learn to trust that no matter what happens, things will be better in time...

Sometimes, you have to let go and hope that in the process of doing so, you learn to accept that things are not just meant to happen...

In the distant future, where there are no more strange feelings, you may have the answer to that one question that lingered in your mind for so long..

Was it worth the risk or are we better off as we are?

For now, i will stay hidden...

Prized Picture with Santa

Wishes do come true! And every one of us got a wish. My wish when I was a kid was that I always wanted to meet Santa. I remember telling my parents that I have been a good girl for the whole year so definitely, I will have presents from Santa Claus. As we were passing by one of the stores, I was ecstatic because I instantly knew Santa was there and was sitting on his chair with presents just for me. I finally got the chance to meet Santa and I whispered my wishes to him. Also, I had my picture taken with him and sat on his lap contentedly knowing that I deserved my presents. As a child, that memory was one of the best Christmas experience ever.

Just the other week, I was scanning my old photo album and I chanced upon my most prized picture with Santa. Now, I can always look back and say I have seen Santa and what’s even great is that I have a picture with the Big man. I remember how happy I was when I had the photo taken and I cannot wait to share it with my friends and little cousins. With the advent of technology, I searched for websites that could help me make my old photo much interesting. Luckily, I found a website that answers my need. Thanks to the creative designs of the CEIVA Digital Photo Frame. With CEIVA Digital Photo Frame, you can never go wrong. The designs were absolutely stunning and creative and the picture that I uploaded was even more astounding. Blame it on the Rain!

I always had this fascination about Rain!

I mean where does it come from? Why does it even Rain?
Rain is liquid precipitation. On Earth, it is the condensation of atmospheric water vapor into drops heavy enough to fall, often making it to the surface. Rain is the primary source of fresh water for most areas of the world, providing suitable conditions for diverse ecosystems, as well as water for hydroelectric power plants and crop irrigation. However, not all rain reaches the surface; some evaporates while falling through dry air. This is called virga, a phenomenon often seen in hot, dry desert regions. The METAR code for rain is RA.
Rain is also known or suspected on other worlds. On
Titan, infrequent methane rain is thought to carve that moon's numerous surface channels. On Venus, sulfuric acid virga evaporates 25 km from the surface. There is likely to be rain of various compositions in the upper atmospheres of the gas giants, as well as precipitation of liquid neon and helium in the deep atmospheres.

Formation
Rain plays a role in the hydrologic cycle in which moisture from the oceans evaporates, condenses into drops, precipitates (falls) from the sky, and eventually returns to the ocean via rivers and streams to repeat the cycle again. The water vapor from plant respiration also contributes to the moisture in the atmosphere.
A major scientific explanation of how rain forms and falls is called the
Bergeron process. More recent research points to the influence of Cloud condensation nuclei released as the result of biological processes.

The downsides!

I just hate it when......

I am in a crowd yet I feel so remote, so alone
I know I am right yet it seem like something’s wrong
And I know there is something wrong yet I become complacent with the way things are
I try to sit still yet my mind wanders off
I sit in the corner trying to ignore my thoughts yet I am helpless and feel bored
I cannot control my composure and with it, I blush uncontrollably
I get too transparent, obvious and predictable
I get too nervous and start to shake and stutter frenziedly
I overcomplicate things when the truth is right in front of me
I try to put on a brave front yet I know am fragile and sensitive
I am pushed back to think of the past and then, realize how poorly I made my decisions
I become to gullible to the point that I have nothing left of me
I plan things ahead so meticulously but somewhere along the way, I am brought to a different direction
I watch good movies or Korean/chi/Japanese series or dramas and suddenly burst into sob (in the dramatic scenes) or laugh my heart out (over silly stuff)
I get too Obsessive Compulsive (OC) on how things should be in their proper arrangements / places
I would never ever do that thing again yet still find myself doing the exact same thing
I say enough is enough yet enough will never be enough

Our little Drummer Boy

My nephew has always been adorable and I can never say no to his little wishes. At his tender age, he knows how to get what he wants. And he has totally got me wrapped around his chubbly little fingers. How can i resist?

To Leam Adriel, here's hoping that you grow up to be the someone who is respectful and compassionate. An individual who is God-fearing and has the drive and passion to seek out the best in life! May you grow up to be a conscentious, healthy and happy person...

and now the end is near...

2008 has nearly come to an end. Another year promises new great things to come. As the year ends, I am compelled once more, to make my to-do list for the year 2009. The list should include things or activities that I am to do or to experience. So, as early as now, I am thinking on how to fill up my list. Achieveable yet challenging! Something to spice up my year…

Book Worm

I never knew that reading books (if I may say, E-books) would be this fun! Even when I was younger, I made it a point to borrow books from our school library. Bedtime stories or fairy tales were not so engaging to me. I have always been fascinated with the world of the unknown – books that tackled science, mystery, magic, supernatural and the unknown. Something exciting!

I rekindled my enthusiasm for books, three years ago. After long scheduled breaks from work, I found myself curling up my bed with almost nothing to do. And so, I decided to end my unexciting Rest days by reading exciting books. I borrowed books from a friend and was acquainted with Paolo Coelho, Anne Rice, Dan Brown and Nicholas Sparks. I also got to read Anne Rice’s Beauty’s Punishment and got my very own The Queen of the damned book by Anne Rice (because of my fascination with the vampire Lestat and all the vamps in general). Aside from that, I bought my very first Dan Brown book - Angels and Demons.

This year, I started reading Twilight series (during the month July) and was hooked on the novels Stephenie Meyer had wonderfully crafted. I finished all her four books in a month’s time. It was so addicting and I could care less about the sleep that I got. Sleep deprived or not, I can hardly contain my excitement as I read the book from one page to another. The movie was an added treat!

After my Twilight series experience, I searched the internet for more vampire storylines similar with Twilight. And so, I came up with a list aka my very own Twilight Readalikes List. I finished reading the vampire novels made by Melissa dela Cruz. The first book entitled “blue blood”, the second is “Masquerade” and the final installment “Revelation”. A refreshing story to read and very likeable characters to start with. It caught my attention and finished reading all three books in two days. It’s a love story that is addictive. Torn between whom to choose -- between a forbidden blue blood vamp love with Jack Force or be with his all time loyal human best friend and “conduit”. It does not only have vamps in it but angels as well.

Right now, I am reading Vampire diaries. I will try to read the whole series over the holiday break. Hopefully!

Rank and File

I checked my blog today and i was glad to see that finally I have a rank. At long last! I hope to write more interesting topics and chronicle my experiences.

I hope to write about my nephew and post some of his first birthday party pictures held yesterday (December 13) at Woodridge Club house.

I am also looking forward to attending series of Christmas Parties this week. The holiday rush surely kicks in. I look forward to spending the holidays with family and friends.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Courtesy Please

To: John Doe
Subj: Courtesy Please

A friend of mine heard a disappointing news. A particular John Doe who once showered her with much attention suddenly got lost in the picture. After months and months of sending text messages and the typical “eating out” scene, this guy literally stopped existing nor made his presence felt. What went wrong? The long hiatus of the guy was finally uncovered. According to a source, the guy is now with someone else. So what just happened?

In times like these, I just can’t help but say to the guy that you could have had the courtesy and the decency to at least say something to my friend about your all new and improved love life. No long explanations are needed but at least you could have given hints about it! You could have spared her the lingering questions in her mind. I guess it’s just hard when the cookie crumbles.

the line

Edward: And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.
Bella: What a stupid lamb.
Edward: What a sick, masochistic lion.
--- p. 274

THE MOVIE

I just finished watching the movie Twilight today!
I was literally in awe with it. Seeing the characters from the novel come alive in the big screen was just perfect as I imagined them to be.... Better even more!

Edward was a perfect charmer and Bella was just a perfect klutz.. Jasper has this "funny expression" on his face while Alice was cute. Rosalie and Emmet were surely a lovey-dovey couple. And the students of Forks (Mike, Jessica & the group) were entertaining to watch. I think I'd be seeing the movie again over the weekend.

P.S
I love the scene where they came to school together and the school just went crazy about seeing them as a couple.. Everbody was just intruiged and in total shock...(Ed's left arms over Bella's shoulders)

Also, where Edward rushed to save Bella (with his shiny silver volvo car)...

Rainy Days Blues

November has become even more and more exciting because of all the drizzling and rain showers in the metro. I am curled up in my bed right now and the gloomy weather starts to affect in me many ways. Too lazy to do anything and I can’t help but stare at the trickle of rain water from my window. So, I am doing a bit of pondering while having the last sip of my Hot Choco Milk. Here’s a few that I came up with.

  • If there’s one thing I learned about being me is that I never push myself for people to take me. I don’t try to squeeze in when I know that there’s no longer room for me.
  • I realize that at times, you could be surrounded by sea of people yet you may feel so alone. I think it’s good to alone sometimes. When you are alone, you have the freedom to think and do things without restraint. It makes you assess what you want in life and makes you see where you want to be. I rather be on my own than be in a bad company.
  • If I am on the brink of my boiling point, I do not take it out on others. Instead, I prefer to be quiet and go try to isolate myself so that I could self soothe. If I am on my “temperamental moody side” mode, I prefer to just be oblivious of the things that happen around me.
  • Explore, Have Fun and Learn. I’d like to start by being someone who is up for a challenge. I’d like to go out more, explore and have fun! To become a risk taker rather than be risk averse.
  • I surround myself with positivism. I like to surround myself with good people for they have a positive influence on me.
  • I prefer to do things on my own yet I concede to the fact that I need help when there’s a necessity to ask for one. I ask for assistance when I have exhausted all possible options that I can think of.
  • I don’t easily warm up to people because that’s just me. It will take me some time to get too close to people but I can say that I am a good friend.
  • Simple pleasures in life are mine for the taking. Having a meaningful dinner with the family or perhaps cuddling my cute little nephew or just catching up on sleep brings so much joy to me. Added to the list are my movie/dvd nights, videoke sessions and coffee blues days. So many things to do yet so little time.
    - Sinulog Escapade (I always love coming back to CEBU!)
    - Megkawayan Adventure, JACA Pool Party and Crash Landing Celebration, Santa Maria
    SummerEscapade
    - Hang outs:
C5, Badminton World, Gmik for videoke nights, Mang Del’s Kambingan, Dimsum
Diner, Fly Over sa Buhangin, D’ Canteen, Baywalk for some Durian treat
  • It’s been awhile since I read a good book. I’m guessing the last books I read was way back year 2005 (Queen of the Damned, Angels and Demons, The Alchemist, Veronika decides to die, Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty, etc.) Luckily, I started reading again this year. Thanks to Stephenie Meyers’ Love story Vampire Saga. I have read all her four books – Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. And all I can say is that, I just loved it and can’t help but read the books all over again!

School is Back

School’s back and so my days are starting to get a lot interesting. School officially started last Saturday (November 8, 2008). It was good to see familiar faces but was also sad because some of my classmates during the 1st semester decided not to enroll. Our wacky group is back. For this semester, I am guessing that school will be a lot difficult. I am hoping though, that I would still be able to get satisfactory marks….

My class starts at 7:30 in the morning up to 4:00 in the afternoon. My subjects this semester are excruciatingly challenging! My first subject is Managerial Accounting followed by Business Research and Statistics and my last subject is Human Behaviour and Resource Management. I guess it’s about time to make my schooling a little bit exciting.

Deadlines, cramming, case studies, group activities, reaction paper, research works and examinations are slowly becoming my best friends these days….. Cheers to more sleepless nights and Cramming moments!

HEART 101

The heart is a muscular organ in all vertebrates responsible for pumping blood through the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions, or a similar structure in annelids, mollusks, and arthropods. The term cardiac (as in cardiology) means "related to the heart" and comes from the Greek καρδιά, kardia, for "heart."

The heart of a vertebrate is composed of cardiac muscle, an involuntary muscle tissue which is found only within this organ. The average human heart beating at 72 BPM, will beat approximately 2.5 billion times during a lifetime spanning 66 years.

FUNCTIONS:

In animals, the function of the right side of the heart (see right heart) is to collect de-oxygenated blood, in the right atrium, from the body and pump it, via the right ventricle, into the lungs (pulmonary circulation) so that carbon dioxide can be dropped off and oxygen picked up (gas exchange). This happens through the passive process of diffusion. The left side (see left heart) collects oxygenated blood from the lungs into the left atrium. From the left atrium the blood moves to the left ventricle which pumps it out to the body. On both sides, the lower ventricles are thicker and stronger than the upper atria. The muscle wall surrounding the left ventricle is thicker than the wall surrounding the right ventricle due to the higher force needed to pump the blood through the systemic circulation.

Starting in the middle atrium, the blood flows through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle. Here it is pumped out the pulmonary semilunar valve and travels through the pulmonary artery to the lungs. From there, blood flows back through the pulmonary vein to the left atrium. It then travels through the mitral valve to the left ventricle, from where it is pumped through the aortic semilunar valve to the aorta. The aorta forks, and the blood is divided between major arteries which supply the upper and lower body. The blood travels in the arteries to the smaller arterioles, then finally to the tiny capillaries which feed each cell. The (relatively) deoxygenated blood then travels to the venules, which coalesce into veins, then to the inferior and superior venae cavae and finally back to the right atrium where the process began.

The heart is effectively a syncytium, a meshwork of cardiac muscle cells interconnected by contiguous cytoplasmic bridges. This relates to electrical stimulation of one cell spreading to neighboring cells.

SMILE (by definition)

In physiology, a smile is a facial expression formed by flexing those muscles most notably near both ends of the mouth. The smile can also be found around the eyes (See 'Duchenne smile' below).
Among humans, it is customarily an expression denoting pleasure, happiness, or amusement, but can also be an involuntary expression of anxiety, in which case it can be known as a grimace. There is much evidence that smiling is a normal reaction to certain stimuli as it occurs regardless of culture.
Happiness is most often the motivating cause of a smile. Among animals, the exposure of teeth, which may bear a resemblance to a smile, is often used as a threat or warning display - known as a snarl - or a sign of submission. In chimpanzees, it can also be a sign of fear. The study of smiles is a part of gelotology, psychology, and linguistics, comprising various theories of affect, humor, and laughter.

SHOW ME A SMILE

A Smile can do wonders. It can lift ones spirit when one is down the dumps. It relieves stress and can even boost our immune system. Some studies suggest that Smiling has numerous health benefits such as lowering blood pressure and releases Endorphins. All It takes is just a little smile to do the trick. Who knows, a smile may even be the start of something new! So let's try to smile more than often and bring much positivity into our lives!

1. Smiling makes us attractive.
We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away -- but a smile draws them in.

2. Smiling Changes Our Mood.
Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There's a good chance you mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.

3. Smiling is Contagious.
When someone is smiling they lighten up the room, change the moods of others, and make things happier. A smiling person brings happiness with them. Smile lots and you will draw people to you.

4. Smiling Relieves Stress.
Stress can really show up in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed. When you are stressed, take time to put on a smile. The stress should be reduced and you'll be better able to take action.

5. Smiling Boosts Your Immune System.
Smiling helps the immune system to work better. When you smile, immune function improves possibly because you are more relaxed. Prevent the flu and colds by smiling.

6. Smiling Lowers Your Blood Pressure
When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor at home. Sit for a few minutes, take a reading. Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference? When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor at home. Sit for a few minutes, take a reading. Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference?

7. Smiling Releases Endorphins, Natural Pain Killers and Serotonin.
Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together these three make us feel good. Smiling is a natural drug.

8. Smiling Lifts the Face and Makes You Look Younger.
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don't go for a face lift, just try smiling your way through the day -- you'll look younger and feel better.

9. Smiling Makes You Seem Successful.
Smiling people appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted, and more likely to be approached. Put on a smile at meetings and appointments and people will react to you differently.

10. Smiling Helps You Stay Positive.
Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard. When we smile our body is sending the rest of us a message that "Life is Good!" Stay away from depression, stress and worry by smiling.

Dare you to M-O-V-E!

  • Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover -- Mark Twain

  • Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. --Dr. Martin Luther King

  • Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. -- T. S. Elliot

  • If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place. -- Nora Roberts

In circles

There are days when I feel like I am going in circles. It's as if I am never moving forward or if it seems like I am moving forward, there are some things that are holding me back. It's as if, I am waiting for things to happen. For things to change for me and I feel like going through the viscious cycle all over again.

The sad part is, things will constanly evolve and that changes are likely to occur with or without my approval. Things and people will never wait for me to change or to make decisions. I have to adapt with these changes and learn to deal with them.

I have always been considered as a risk averse person but I am constantly challenging my self to break out of my shell and do something out of the ordinary. I wish to do more, to experience greater things, to explore different worlds, to see a lot of wonders, to liberate my self and just be happy

I wish to break free...

Sweet November

The month of November is something that I always look forward to. It is does not only signify the coming of the season to be jolly "December" but it's the perfect time to remember All Souls and All Saints Days. It's not just the trick or treat part but actually remembering our beloved who have passed away. All Souls day is special because we get to remember our beloved for the legacy they left behind and teaches us about never taking for granted our very own mortality.

November is special for me because some of my dear friends happen to celebrate their natal days on this very month. I have great memories of my previous November days so I am looking forward to continue having those mem'ries.

At work, we are all giddy and excited to celebrate and gather together in our Annual Assembly festivity. It's a two day affair -- the best time to enjoy and have fun. Although, we are currently in-charge of the affair, we somewhat expect a busy and hectic schedule for the preparation of the event. Our days will surely get busier and busier as November 29 and 30 approaches.

I am counting the days til' December comes but November will always have a special place in my Calendar...

I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all. --Ten Things I Hate About You

-- Never Been kissed

You are what I never knew I always wanted--Fools Rush In

When they ask me what I liked best, I'll tell them it was you." -- City Of Angels

--Crazy/Beautiful
I always thought that there was this one perfect person for everybody in the world, you know, and when you found that person the rest of the world kind of magically faded away, and, you know, the two of you would just be inside this kind of protective bubble, but there is no bubble, I mean if there is you have to make it, I just think life is more than a series of moments, you know, we can make choices, and we can choose to protect the people we love, and that's what makes us who we are and those are the real memories --Forces of Nature

Some Excerpts of my Grad School Papers

In reality, education is crucial in every man’s life. The lessons we learn within the four corners of the classroom should prepare all of us (may or may not be the future managers of companies) of what’s to happen in the real world, a world that is economically driven and an ever changing, inventive world.
The more we learn, the more we figure out how to gather, categorize and apply practical uses for the knowledge we have. We learn to think. By both gaining knowledge and learning how to use it, we become well rounded individuals and become familiar with the business environment. It makes us a better thinker. It makes us think differently and guides us on how to make the right decisions and eventually to think innovatively.

Education for me, allows us to maximize and use the fullest of our potentials. Because classroom work can only prepare us for part of the challenge of a new career, it should not only equip us with the almost all information (from the likes of business theories and concepts, management principles and business models) but should provide us with more than adequate exposure / immersion on what really is going on in the business world. It provides valuable insight into the ways that professionals turn concepts and theories into practice. Managers develop leadership capacities by first hand observation of their environment and by an assessment of feedback from their actions.

Some Excerpts of my Grad School Papers

Background:
Business decisions have to be made and are inevitable. How are we to go about in choosing the right and best decisions for the company?

Insight:
It is clearly undeniable that we are faced with difficult and often complicated decisions everyday. Decisions have to be made and there is no escaping it. Competition is almost anywhere and in order to compete, one must innovate and be dynamic. I have always wondered how and where enterprising entities base their business decisions. Are they only motivated by the incentives of earning and the concerns of profit and loses? Or do they have strategic plans on how to go about competing with other firms/companies? Is business ethics applicable in the complex world of the market place? These are just some of the questions I was eager to learn some answers.

Business ethical issues are present in most business decisions firms have to make. Firms are most likely to experience some dilemma in going about their businesses. They may be in constant odds with strategic business plans/techniques versus the non-economical social values or considerations.

Lessons Learned:
A. With the ethics questionnaire, I became more aware of the importance of business ethics. Business ethics allows firms/companies to examine and re-evaluate why they came into existence – their purpose. If a company's main purpose is to maximize the returns, then it challenges us to think if there are ways that profit maximizing behavior of the company can be made complementary on choosing decisions that promote social justice. It is demanding us to think, if it’s even possible for business/marketing instruments to be attuned with business ethics?
B. Firms/business should not be only driven by economic “profit” incentives but they should also learn to consider more the “value” of how they do business. Is it geared towards the promotion of social justice? Does it provide fair opportunities for all?
C. I think that firms/companies these days are becoming more and more sensitive on the basis of their business decisions. Most companies are adopting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which guides them on how they should conduct their business in the society.
D. As the article provided, there are no right answers to the ethics questionnaire. Firms/business must then inculcate among them (the BODs, Managers and employees) the right values and corporate behaviour that they should follow.
E. It would help if firms/business should formulate internal policies pertaining to their ethical conduct so that each manager or employee may have a guideline incase ethical problems might arise in the course of doing business. It will lead to greater ethical awareness and the avoidance of ethical problems.

Some Excerpts of my Grad School Papers

What are the solutions to keep talented managers from leaving the company?

Is there more to it than meets the eye?

In reality, people need to make a living but more than anything else, we also need to feel respected and valued. The prevalent challenge faced by any firms today is not one of growth or profitability but retaining and motivating valued employees in the company. How then do we keep these “assets” of the company from leaving? The idea is to create an atmosphere where these key people feel they have entrepreneurial decision-making authority making them feel that they are a part of a bigger plan. Acknowledging their capacities and allowing them to work on projects also keep them motivated to work even harder.

Apart from the pay packages / monetary incentives there should always be something to keep them highly interested and motivated to work. Up-to-date trainings, seminars and lectures are some effective forms of keeping managers highly motivated and more importantly, they become more productive and efficient in their specific job task. By motivating managers, the firms/companies create the mechanism that will drive managers to succeed and be content. The greater the success (and reward), the more overall business will benefit. Once set into motion, they will result in greater employee satisfaction and lower manager turnover. Growth and profitability will automatically follow.

A Goodnight’s Sleep

Lack of sleep makes one grumpy and cranky. One little slip up from the people around you and you may get all fired up! You become so sensitive to the things around you. Being sleep deprived and worn out causes one to become inattentive in classes, unproductive at work and distracted in whatever activities you may be engaged at.

So, what does it take to have a better sleep at night? What should we do to be all sparkly and bright for the day's activities ahead? Here are just some easy yet helpful things that one can surely do.

Exercise and Stretch. It has been said that Exercising 3-6 hours before going to sleep increases your body temperature and that the gradual decrease in temperature that follows help lull you into sleep. (A Stanford University School of Medicine study of 55 to 75 year old sedentary individuals who struggled with insomnia revealed that adding 20-30 minutes of exercise every other day cut the time needed to fall asleep in half and increased sleep time by nearly one hour.) Exercise is my form of stress reliever. It allows me to keep track and get to feel the changes of my body. It helps me be trim and the health benefits are great.

Alcohol & caffeine. According to studies, it takes about 2-hours to metabolize an ounce of alcohol, so try to limit intake to no more than one drink at least 2-hours before bedtime. Caffeine metabolizes far more slowly. A large cup of coffee could take up to 15 hours to fully metabolize, so the general rule is no caffeine after lunch. I am not so crazy with alcohol and coffee, so I will gladly settle with a cup of Hot Choco with marshmallows to make me doze off easily. It works wonder for me. It soothes me and relaxes my dead beat and aching muscles.

Read. Anything that catches my attention is worth my time. I love scanning old written reaction papers from school, browsing through magazines (lifestyle, Hollywood buzz, Home improvement, etc.) and books. There is so much potential in every story/news/article I read. It opens up all the doors to my imagination and allows me to wander in my thoughts.

Write. Write about something that stirs up your curiosity. Or make a journal and document your experiences for the day. All the emotions come pouring in and writing about something makes you see things in a different light. Writing can be very therapeutic and may very well lead you to closely exam your life. You can chronicle your day to day experiences or you may want to start a “To-do List” . You will be surprised when you read through your past journal entries. It's like walking down the memory lane. It definitely will make you a lot wiser... to be able to see and appreciate the developments (the unfolding of the drama) in your life.

Go to sleep at a consistent time. Consistency is the key. Establish a dependable sleeping time schedule and make it a priority to pursue it, even on weekends (or not?). It will help train your body clock to acknowledge your fixed sleeping schedule. Ultimately, following a schedule that works well for you may just do the trick. Stick to the plan and make good at it!

Vampires (Tribute to the upcoming TWILIGHT movie)

I have always been fascinated with the Dark world of the Supernaturals particularly Vampires. They are the masters of seduction and the whole predator-prey relationship is just too much to handle. Vampires are mysterious and they carry with them an innate sensuality (which helps in making their prey restless, I guess!). The way they seduce their unknowing preys, how they showcase of their mystical powers (super speed & strength) and the uncovering of their weak/blind spots (stakes, any sharp object, holy water, crucifixes, sunlight, UV rays and the likes) are sure hits in a vamp movie.

With the advent of Hollywood movies, vampires in the big screen are becoming less and less scary. Instead of portraying them as the Nosferatu in the 18th century as unattractive counts and countess, they are now vastly becoming hip royalties with an utterly modern sense of style (no more big boring black capes and heavy eyeliners).

Blame it on the big screen but I just love the Modern day vamp movies. In lieu of the TWILIGHT hype, I would like to give you a List of Hip and Amazing Vampire Movies / Series and even Anime that are worth to watch and scream for. You are in for some action packed, freaky yet entertaining must-see list.

Change (Kambyo)

A classmate of mine gave me compliments about my Blog and mentioned that the MOOD of my site is very EMO. I love reading my blog entries over and over again and be reminded that at some point (when reading them once more) I was able to go through all sorts of Emotions and was able to get through my experiences in one piece. I am a very emotional, sentimental and intuitive person and I think that is perfectly healthy.

Nevertheless, to break the ice, I plan on deviating from my usual themes. I plan to write more about Topics that astonishes me, some bits and pieces about my personal diversions. I want to keep you constantly hanging at the edge of your seats so I plan not to write about my experiences (except when there’s a need to do so) but I will share a bit of my world… the world that continuously intrigues me. Therefore, expect a little bit of eccentricity!

The Grayish Grin: Episode 1 - Letting go is always heart breaking but…

If there’s one thing that I abhor the most in this world, that would be saying goodbye. It has always been hard for me to let go of something or someone that I have grown to love. Just the thought that I am letting go of something that has been a part of me makes me feel awful. Being separated from somebody that you always long for or leaving someone behind that you ache to be with or perhaps losing something that is irreplaceable or just saying adieu to something/someone that is no longer a part of your life is never the easiest thing to do. In fact, it takes a lot of courage and will power.

I always have a hard time saying goodbye and it sucks to know that I am a coward when it comes to what I call the “Blurry Exodus Moments aka BEM” of my life. In evading possible BEM drama, I have little by little learned to master a new skill that I call “The Shield”. I learned to develop pseudo-immunity against possible exits in my life. If I feel that things are not that great, I slowly detach myself. I keep things to myself and I lock myself up – meaning I try to put some distance and I spend a lot of time just enjoying / doing things on my own. I engage in new activities that would keep me preoccupied. I try to keep myself busy and try to expose myself with a whole new things. As others put it, I become a total stranger to them but they are clueless on how hard I try not to let my emotions get in the way. The bitter truth is I am hurting too but it’s the best way that I can think of as to make the pain of losing bearable.. tolerable… less painful. A not so subtle and graceful exit…

One thing that I always try to keep in mind is that better days are yet to come and think that Changes will most likely give me some amusing and unimaginable twists and turns. There is always a beginning and an end, so no matter how hard I try to escape the feeling of being lost, lonely and disillusioned, I will soon get tired of running from them thus it’s best to deal with it and learn from the experience.

There will always be good days and bad days. It just takes a little getting use to and sooner or later I'll be back on my feet again... maybe not as good as new but better than ever. It is heartbreaking and unbearable at first but the hurt and pain gets better as the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years pass me by. Eventually, I learn to deal with the pain and you slowly pick up the pieces and start living the best I can with God's grace and the people around me. Dusting off the dust is something that needs to be done and learning to trust that things will be better in time is the key to letting go.

Needless to say, letting go of something / someone makes me a bit wiser and stronger. It makes me see that I am capable of doing things that are inconceivable to bear, that I am made to last a lifetime and I am not too weak as I thought to be. I become resilient yet hopeful. I’ve learned that human relations are as much as complex as the years go by but gets better and better when you learn to compromise and accept and let go. The things that I have missed will eventually find its way back to me somehow, someday!

When we were younger..

My elementary school days will always be a good memory to me. It was something that i could probably say one of the best years of my life. I found life-long friends, made something out of myself and was a good student. I had fun learning in school and just simply enjoyed all the opportunities that were given to me. I found GSP campings, School Intramurals, Nutritrion Months, United Nation Months, December Christmas Parties, DACCS competition and all other activities inside / outside the school so exhilirating.. so exciting!

I found happiness in wearing our white gala uniform every first friday mass and other religious activities. I found contentment in attending religious rites . I found all school activities exciting and more than that, i loved being around people who inspire me to be better. School has made me better. It made me want to look at life differently. It made me a better individual who thinks not only of herself but someone who is sensitive to the needs of others. School is absolutely cool!

I always look forward to spending some kulitan and chikahan moments with you guys (Grace, Chik, Gette and our old fwends Felycette, Maity and Paulette) Hope we can catch up soon!
So here's to my Happy Elementary days and to life-long friends!
